- Iconic film references, nostalgic style-cues and teenage heartthrobs meet modern fabrications, sophisticated silhouettes and distinct artworks delivering a fresh new attitude for Zimmermann’s Resort RTW 2025 collection.

“I was thinking about the influence that 80’s coming-of-age movies and actors of the era had on my friends and I back when I was at design school in Sydney. Movies like St Elmo’s Fire, The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink. So many of our style cues were taken from Winona Ryder, Lisa Bonet or Molly Ringwald.

We would rummage through vintage stores and create looks that mixed and matched the old with the new, menswear and womenswear - that was our entertainment on the weekends before we went out. For this Resort season we embraced the style and feel-good mood of these movies and tried to bring it together in a fresh, fun and modern way.

We worked with soft focus floral prints, leopard print on silk linen organza for prom-like dresses, engineered lace prints - as well as lace as a key texture itself in both key looks and shoes. There’s lots of little icons inspired by the films that run through our details - diary extracts, cassette tapes, records and lipstick that come through in key artwork and in charms.

Our denim brings more masculine influences in biker and collegiate jackets and oversized jeans. Tailoring has nods to exaggerated shoulders with twist details. I loved those movies - I still love them. They were fun and so was the style for me.” - Creative Director, Nicky Zimmermann.

An opening look featuring lace biker shorts, and an oversized lace pirate shirt set the scene for exploring 80s icons of style through a modern lens. Collegiate inspiration informs dark denim varsity jackets and flirty dresses; tees with embellished necklines worn with cool jean shapes or short flippy skirts and a good dose of pearls.

An engineered lace print features lockets and initials; while another graphic print is inspired by diary extracts and teenage scrawlings about crushes and daydream musings. Scattered hearts and polka dots are carefree and optimistic.

There is an undeniable sense of fun, serving up modern prom dresses for any occasion. Corseted leopard, exaggerated hand-draped shoulders, statement fabric rosettes, sculptural peplums and knitted lace bodysuits all signal party while also styled with big earrings, sneakers and brogues for day.

Dirty pastels, and painterly floral artworks bring a lady-like softness to floaty, sheer maxi’s; and scallop-edged shifts, diamante encrusted of course. Velvet ribbon spaghetti straps on tiered handkerchief lace dresses with subtle cut-outs are elegant and special.

Head-turning floating strapless gowns are deceivingly technical in their construction. Black and white styles, and tux dresses are timeless classics.

Oversized outerwear - square cut blazers, jacquard coats, leather jackets and technical trenches - are layered over mini bustiers, a mint bralette, tight shorts and uber pretty minis with pointy-toed slides and sheer sockettes - the result is sexy and playful. Effortless staples in denim - high waisted, faded - and knitwear ground the collection for a versatile season you will want to rerun over and over again.
