Viktor&Rolf debuts ‘Tales From Good Fortune’, a one-of-a-kind 10-minute documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of GOOD FORTUNE, the brand’s just-launched new fragrance for women.
The times when a consumer simply smelled a fragrance before purchasing are over. Today, consumers want to escape, to lose themselves in a beautifully woven tale of inspiration, creation and wonder. They also want to learn about a scent’s formulation before buying. They want to know ‘what is behind’ the product as well as ‘what is inside’.
A dosuscentary: a new tool to discover a fragrance
The explosion of digital has turned the process of fragrance discovery upside-down. The entire adventure of a scent, from concept to design to juice, can be “storytelled” so that next-gen audiences around the world can enjoy the legend-in-the-making and fall in love with the product.
Documentaries are reaching a constantly growing audience. The format inspires trust, because documentaries are about truth and fact, not fiction.
The new Viktor&Rolf movie,‘Tales From Good Fortune’, is a docuscentary which, in short, is a new way to digitally sample a fragrance.
“Right now, the documentary is probably the most authentic, the most ‘in-real-life’ approach that we have at our disposal for storytelling an enchanting, luxury perfume,” says Guillaume de Lesquen, L’Oréal Luxe Designer Brands Fragrances Worldwide President. “The Viktor&Rolf movie, ’Tales From Good Fortune’, is a first! Such a documentary is a new way for a brand to accompany its fragrance launch.”
In ‘Tales From Good Fortune’, viewers are given the real stories behind the ‘magic’ ingredients that went into creating the perfume. The film is being released just after the GOOD FORTUNE mystical-themed launch campaign, starring renowned singer and singer, dancer and actress FKA twigs.
“Good Fortune is all about good vibes, and the documentary similarly oozes with positive feelings”, continues de Lesquen.
An alchemy of talents on a quest for the perfect olfactory source of alignment and magnetism
The ambitious 10-minute documentary, directed by Nathalie de Lopez and Paul Mignot, follows designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren who talk in-depth about crystals and meditation, and how their passion for all things ‘new age’ led to the idea for GOOD FORTUNE; as well as IFF perfumers Anne Flipo and Nicolas Beaulieu who recall how they plunged into ancient books of spells and botanical powers to develop a scent of solar and spell-binding virtues, based on the idea of ‘white magic’. It was filmed over a period of 14 days in locations including Amsterdam — where Horsting and Snoeren are based — and Grasse — the cradle of perfume in the South of France — as well as Paris, Ibiza and Provins.
The designers and perfumers talk directly to viewers, sharing their vision, in their own words, adding to the film’s authenticity. These are real people telling real stories, revealing the passionate human adventure behind the fragrance.
The directors expect that these ‘Tales From Good Fortune’ will resonate with viewers: “It is a visually dynamic deep dive that conveys the emotions, sensations and vibrations you’ll feel when wearing the fragrance.”
‘Tales From Good Fortune’ is available for streaming from YouTube and the brand’s website.
