Jil Sander is proud to announce the launch of its first Fine Jewelry collection. This strategic extension further reinforces Jil Sander’s elevated modern offering, as the pinnacle of luxury within OTB’s portfolio, and follows on the heels of the opening of the brand’s largest flagship worldwide in Ginza, Tokyo where the Fine Jewelry collection exclusively debuts before rolling out across select stores globally.
Testimony of OTB Group’s commitment to the segment, as the first of its brands to enter the category, the development of Jil Sander Fine Jewelry collection has been intentionally guided mirroring the excellence in craft and design the brand is known for. The addition of fine jewelry caters to further styling opportunities for its sophisticated customers, and broader brand visibility through distinct and signature design codes.
An important development in its overall brand proposition, fine jewelry is another milestone signifying Jil Sander’s lifestyle appeal, with a premium fragrance announced earlier this year to be launching in January 2025.
Inspiring the fine jewelry collection is the natural world: botany, water, and the cosmos. Light is the guiding principle, as is lightness in both matter and spirit. Forms are organic. Archetypes. Elevated into a synthesis of 18k gold and lab-grown diamonds with the most advanced goldsmith technologies and the expertise of Italian traditional crafts.
Every piece is unique as they are realized through lost wax casting, the source of sculpture and jewelry from ancestral artistry. A technique now based on 3D printing and numerical control machines, with no cast, no mould, and no waste. These jewels could not have been technically made otherwise.
The hand-polished surfaces are voluntarily imperfect, or super-shiny by contrast. Accentuating each irregularity characterizing the smooth and soft surfaces of the collection with the use of hand cutters and rubbers. Diamonds are round cut and embedded by hand under a microscope, but never aligned.
Calculated imperfections that seem to mirror our own, to suggest that the individual should be always front and center, which is customary at Jil Sander. An approach to jewelry-making that enhances through subtraction and difference; in which the complexity of the creative processes disappears behind the beauty of the results.
Fused in white gold, rhodium plated, and dotted with diamonds in three different sizes, the fractal form of the “Branch” series finds its balance between the imperfection of its natural shape and the seamless execution of the design - the choker is made by five pieces invisibly welded. Hollow, the inside of the ring, choker, bracelet, and earrings make them light and comfortable. The closure of the choker and the necklace is a T-Bar, simple and effective.
The “Astral” necklace and bracelet are made by an ingenious flat snake-chain combining a triple welded and diamond-coated curb, and a lobster clasp closure that avoids the interruption of the chain lines and brilliance. The “Astral” yellow gold pendants, embedded with a diamond, draw the outline of a satellite, a sun-coin with a vibrating surface.
They are obtained by flattening the metal with the same 300 tons press used to mint coins, to reach the thickness between 0,8 and 1,2 millimeters that makes them equally bodied and ethereal.
Light, elliptical miniature sculptures in smooth yellow gold - the “Drop” ring and earrings - exceptional pieces for design and construction, that push micro-casting and goldsmith to their technical limits, are the substance of a pure organic form. But with perfect, clean edges and a shiny, highly reflective surface, obtained by roughing and polishing the jewels by hand with all the know-how and experience required.
The collection debuts exclusively at the new Jil Sander Ginza flagship with availability across stores in the coming year.
