Palomo Spain Spring/Summer 2018
06/02/2018 - Margaux Warin
Daring, creativity, individuality, extravagance, eroticism - a few words describing the world of Palomo Spain, the young Spanish brand created by Alejandro Gomez. With him, fashion is fun: he disrupts the codes, overdoes the ornements, colors, fabrics, twists the suits, invents a universe and, finally, has fun while creating, something which shows on the catwalk, particularly through his clothes worn by ephebes. Made by artisans using traditional Spanish savoir-faire, each piece is embellished with multiple details. His individuality stems from wanting to highlight his own singularity. Alejandro designs clothes embellished with embroideries, crystals, with all the ornements which are usually associated with women's clothing. In his case, however, men wear the clothes during the show, and his designs are worn by both men and women; Beyonce chose to wear a Palomo Spain dress to introduce her twins. These clothes are worn to dare: dare to wear them and to be free, to free yourself from conventions while sublimating one's body - this is what makes the lyricism of his creations.

What is your biggest source of inspiration?

My biggest source of inspiration is really myself and the people who I work with and the way I make clothes. Particularly Pol, who is the muse and works very close to me when making collection and takes it into reality when we wear them.

Which men and women inspire you the most?

Pol, The Beckhams, Michael Jackson, Antonia Dell´Atte.

The film that speaks the most to your aesthetic is:

Must be All About my Mother, by Almodóvar.

Which artist(s) inspire(s) you the most?

Well, this is probably Caravaggio, because he portraits beauty in the way that I like to portrait it and chooses the boys I would totally use for my clothes.

The last place you traveled to that inspired you for Palomo Spain:

It was New York, during my research period for Hotel Palomo (SS18). I was moving from one hotel to another and I saw the people getting in the halls, the different ways they dressed and I got inspiration for all those characters I then portrayed in my show last September. These places made me start imagining what would happen inside the rooms.

Which message do you want to deliver through your clothes?

Freedom. Freedom for men to dress the way they feel. And, of course, glamour and opulence. Perhaps a bit of color added to our life.

The last Palomo Spain collection in three words:

Celebration. Glamour. Beauty and Comfortableness. That´s four, right ?

If you could leave in any era, when would you choose and why?

I would be totally living in Versailles. You choose the century !

If one woman (alive or not) could wear your collection for eternity, who would you choose?

ELIZABETH TAYLOR !

What is your definition of “masculinity” nowadays ?

I do not know what to say. Masculinity is a thing that goes with one´s attitude. I do not even know how to describe it.
